Call for project plans - ATT. Special, public and school libraries

We have currently received 9 project plans from academic and health libraries covering service/collection evaluation, service development/redesign, service implementation, and presentation/report writing. Library service areas include - bibliographic services, academic support, web services, library administration, collection development, information services and staff development.

Special, public and school libraries are particularly encouraged to contribute a plan for a project recently completed, or still underway. If you would feel more comfortable sharing the blank template of your project planning tool, that would be helpful also. We can guarantee confidentiality for you and your institution.

See the Call for Project Plans for more information.

Scoping survey results

"...survey results clearly support development of a project planning tool (supported by an EBLIP toolkit) as a method of encouraging the theory of EBLIP to be applied in practice."

A focussed question

The project will be driven by this research question:

What modification to standard project management methodology is necessary to support EBLIP by library practitioners while still ensuring successful project management?

Once this has been answered, with the launch of a draft version of PEBL, the project will evaluate its impact by asking:

Is a project planning tool enhanced by the EBLIP framework more effective in delivering successful library projects than traditional project planning tools, as measured by project outcomes achieved by library practitioners?

Call for project plans

A call for project plans has been sent to our initial target group - the Scoping Survey respondents who indicated a willingness to share a plan. However, we would welcome a project plan (a completed one (pref.), and/or empty template) from any library and information service worker willing to contribute. Please see the the Call for Project Plans for further information.

Introducing PEBL

This blog will chart the progress of a project under development by librarians of Northern Sydney Central Coast Health (Gosford Hospital Library) and The University of Newcastle, Australia, who have been exploring evidence-based library and information practice (EBLIP).

A project planning tool that incorporates the evidence-based practice process was identified as a practical means of enabling library practitioners to take the theory of EBLIP and actually put it into practice. The project to develop "PEBL - a Project methodology for Evidence-Based Libraries ... a stepping stone between a theory and its practice" was launched in June 2006, at the Gosford session of "EBL in practice. A seminar with Andrew Booth.".

The project team hope to launch PEBL in May 2007.
